Sunny May

Hotspur being manoeuvred on the trolley with cab in place
Hi, just a quick update on ALR things recently......the re assembling of Hotspur is coming on nicely with the cab now fitted and pipework and fittings appearing !!!! We have been able to enjoy our new, larger, refurbished picnic table in the lovely sunshine that we have been lucky enough to have lately...our trackwork is being tweaked' and refined with a section of the mainline just before the Eastgate ballast siding, having been taken up, roots removed and reballasted, and the ballast area round the Loco Shed is now completed......

The 'Engine Shed', which is what we are calling the new pit cover !, is just about finished with just the roof louvre to fit. Internally lights and phone are commissioned, the workbench, tool shadow board and chalkboard are in place, and the compressor is in place, and we are just watching the pit to see how much water appears before treating the floor and part walls with bitumen, followed by the walls being treated a light coloured masonry paint, and a safe ladder access /egress being fitted (rather than the hoist suggested to help some of our less mobile members to get in and out!!!)

Brian Reading came out on Wednesday 14th May to carry out the inspection and steam testing due on Lucille & Isabel, and we were delighted that they both passed with flying colours! Many thanks Brian.....
We are looking forward to a visit by our friends from the Nottingham and Wakefield Clubs this week when we will be able to enjoy some different locos on our tracks, and we are hoping to get across to Hemsby to see our friends there and their visiting locos, during Hemsby week at their interesting Parklands Railway.....

Off we go!

The fairies in residence on the ALR

Hi there, well our first Public Open Day for this year was brilliant, lots of happy visitors, lovely sunny afternoon, and all went well. Thank you all for coming to see us! There were six trains out at one period during the afternoon which tested the co-ordination 'skills' of our signallers on the new control panel which is now working extremely well. Brackers has now got the interlocking sorted out out  in the 'Triangle /Birchwood Junction' area so no conflicting movements across the flat crossing can take place.
All of our seven working locos did a stint during the afternoon and we even saw a freight train trundling round! (Hotspur is still being re assembled around the new boiler, and is taking shape nicely
We are also delighted that some very attractive females have taken up residence in a 'Fairy Glen' on the curve just past Birchwood Junction, which has got our 'Gnome' population very excited !!!!! Thanks to our Ladies, Barbara, Margaret, Sue and Kay for their efforts in creating this area, which we know has been well received already!

Getting ready for the Open Day with the 'posh'  new pit cover virtually complete

General and Thunderbox  on duty!

Our Ladies with their creations!

P.S.  and how about this for a Birthday cake?

We hosted a Birthday Party on Saturday and the lucky participants had this to tuck into!!!! Tricky job cutting that eh????!!!!
